Description
Antique Georgian large Pinchbeck pendant/brooch, c1800. Ornate pinchbeck surround with fine hand chasing to each of the four edge scrolls with a hand painted/hand drawn portrait of a maiden. Hanging loop to the top for wearing as a pendant or pin to verso (in good working order) as to be worn as a brooch. Pinchbeck is a metal alloy that you won't encounter in todays jewellery. It was invented in the 18th century by a London clockmaker, Christopher Pinchbeck, to resemble gold & pinchbeck jewellery was used in places like stagecoaches, where there was a risk of theft. Great addition to any collection. With gift box.
